I love summertime because we have so much freedom in our schedule. At any given moment we can pick up and take a roadtrip or put together a vacation or just spend an afternoon at the waterpark. On the other hand, as the mom in a family that is always on the go, I also love the fact that we can park the car and stay home for days at a time! But even if we’re keeping it close to home, no one wants to be bored. That’s why we’re planning for lots of Backyard Fun!

DIY Yard Yahtzee
I looooove this idea! Who doesn’t love a great game of Yahtzee? And if I get to play in the sunshine and the cool green grass of my backyard? Yes, please! This pin comes to us thanks to The Pinning Mama.

Sponge Bombs
My kids love a good water balloon fight, and I can’t say as I blame them. Who doesn’t? Well … me! I’m the one who has to stand around and fill water balloons for hours, getting soaked in the process as every fourth or fifth one bursts while I try to tie it. Not fun, and not going to happen again. This family is trading in our water balloons for sponge bombs from now on! Inner Child Fun even added a video to show you exactly how to make them!

Tic Tac Toe
My five-year-old loves to play tic tac toe even though she doesn’t really seem to get it. Maybe adding this awesome Springtime Tic Tac Toe game from Chicken Scratch NY will give her some good, adorable practice!

Backyard Twister
Umm … Backtard Twister. What’s more fun, the game or getting to spraypaint the grass?? BOTH! I love this idea from Show and Tell!

CORN HOLE!
Before I moved to Washington, I’d never even heard of this crazy game, but Josh loves it. I was super impressed a while back when a fellow spouse from the boat made one for her hubby so this summer I think I’ll try to make a set myself! I found these at The Happier Homemaker and fell in LOVE!

Tabletop Checkers
Now maybe checkers doesn’t scream summer, but when I saw this transformation from Oh My Gluestick … and then saw the old Mission side table I had sitting in the donation pile, I saw hours of checkers-filled fun for me and the family over the summer!

Bubbles
Who doesn’t love bubbles? They’re pretty and float along gracefully, and as my oldest daughter said so often when she was a little thing, “They tickle me on my little nose!” I’ve always loved blowing bubbles with the kids, and I love trying out different recipes. Thanks to Pinterest, I’ve got my two favorite recipes all picked out!

A Quiet Reading Spot
All my kids are readers, and all of us enjoy a quiet moment and a cool place to get away to read. We have a great tree in our backyard with low hanging branches that will be a perfect place to create an awesome backyard reading spot like this one from Alanna George.
