Friday Five: Weekend Plans, Busted Plans, and How We Make Plans!

My unplanned summer pretty much came to a screeching halt this week. Not because  of school (we still have almost a month) and not because I just couldn’t stop planning (I’ve become pretty fond of not planning). It’s because life begins again when school starts, and someone has to plan it all and make it happen, and for me that means three meetings and two meet and greets this week alone and a calendar slowly filling up for the rest of the month. So for this week’s Friday Five, let’s talk about Plans!

What am I doing this weekend? Tomorrow I’m volunteering at the NBK Formal fashion Swap. If you’re local to me (stationed near NBK) and have a gown or two that you’d like to donate, puh-lease come on down! After you drop your gowns off in the morning, you can come back in the afternoon and find another gown for FREE! This event is such a great way to get a new-to-you gown without taking out a personal loan! (FREE! FREE! FREE!) And since we all know a military ball can be a little stressful, come down and let us help with a little bit of that!

What am I NOT doing this weekend? Camping. Because apparently everyone else on the peninsula IS camping, and they all got their reservations a year ago OR they are planning to show up on Thursday to get a first come-first serve spot for the weekend. As we walked the trails of Manchester State Park last weekend, I got this cuh-razy idea to go camping this weekend … which clearly isn’t happening unless we pitch a tent in our backyard. Boo.

But I’m not giving up on my camping plan. Josh is taking a few days of leave later this month, and I’m hoping to find the perfect place for us to spend the night outdoors. Maybe a mountain view? Maybe something near the ocean? Definitely something with a few easy trails for us to explore! If you have ANY good camping dinners, games, or other tips, puh-lease share them in the comments! I’d love to plan as much as possible before we go so everyone (including MOM) can enjoy our brief trip into the woods!

How do you keep up with all your plans? If you had asked me this a few months ago, I would have answered, “Paper planners all the way!” These days though I’m using an app called Cozi. I set it up on my PC, and It has a calendar, lists, menu planning … everything! Each member of your family can add their own activities and access everything on their smartphones and can switch between only seeing their own appointments or seeing everyone’s schedules and lists! My family has been using Cozi for several weeks now, and it’s really awesome. We’re currently using the free option, but I think the paid version is in our future! How do you keep up with your families schedule?

And I have plans for the blog, too! Next week, all week long, I’m dedicating Back on Land to a very special group of Navy spouses … the CPO Selectee Spouse! The list was released this week, and I am so excited to see some familiar faces celebrating, but I also remember having LOTS of questions! I hope I can answer some of them here! If you’d like to help me and already are a CPO spouse, you can fill out THIS SHORT SURVEY. It will take less than five minutes, and it will really help me help new CPO Select spouses!

So there you have it. My unplanned summer is over but not over. I’m just “planning” to make the best of the summertime I have left. What about you? Any camping tips for me? Any big summer plans left before the kids head back to school?
